Our Adoption Process

General Information

  • Our adoption counselors spend hours interviewing adoption candidates and spending countless hours trying to pair up the right dog for your family, so please make sure you are seriously and currently interested in adopting.  We do not process applications for “the future”.
  • If you apply for a specific dog, but that dog would not be a good fit for your home and your application could be a good fit for another dog we hope you trust our match makers to find you your perfect match.
  • Our adoption fee is $300.00. For your adoption fee, the dog will be spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, and heartworm-free, and you will receive a FREE “congratulations on your new dog” training/behavioral session via phone or Zoom. The adoption fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.
  • Once we receive your application, if it is approved at the preliminary stage, one of our adoption counselors will contact you and ask for information about your yard, landlord (if applicable), etc. Please be patient, as this process can take up to two weeks.
  • The next stage of the adoption process is to match you up with the right dog and one of our other adoption counselors will spend quite a bit of time with you, sometimes requiring multiple phone calls, etc.  BE PATIENT!!!  We take pride in our thorough adoption process, and we want this to be FOREVER!

Adopting a Virtually adopted dog

  • If you are adopting a dog that has "Virtually Adopted by" on their profile that means that dogs adoption fee has already been covered by one of our Virtual Adopters. With that being said, even though the adoption fee is already paid we will still handle our application process the same.

ADOPTING WITH EXISTING DOGS/CATS IN THE HOME

  • As you can imagine, getting two people to cohabitate in the same household can be difficult enough. So imagine trying to do it with dogs and cats who do not speak “human” and can’t tell us what they are truly feeling.  It can be challenging to say the least.  We want what is best for our dogs and yours (and cats, too), so understand that this is really not about you or us, it’s about them.  We need all of our four-legged friends to be happy and safe.
  • We DO adopt out to homes with existing small-breed dogs and/or cats BUT we have to be extra careful, as the majority of our dogs are larger breeds. Despite what some may believe, you cannot force a dog to love another dog or cat if it chooses not to. Not to mention, it would put your existing dog/cat in jeopardy.  This all being said, we may have a small selection of VRC dogs that would work out for your household.  And because everyone’s situation is different, we would have to take the time to put our dog(s) through their paces, to ensure that we feel confident in the proper selection for your four-legged family member.
  • For those with an existing large breed dog, matching a VRC dog with yours will be easier, and we’ve had success in doing so. Again, the final decision will not be yours or ours; it will be up to the dogs themselves. So when filling out an application, be sure to be honest and as thorough as possible about your existing dog/cat’s personality and/or issues so that, again, everyone remains safe and happy.

WE DO NOT ADOPT TO:

  • We do not adopt to homes with children under 5 years old. We do not have the proper setup to temperament test our dogs for this scenario.
  • We do not adopt to homes that are under HOA guidelines unless we are able to receive in writing that you are allowed to have the dog you are interested in adopting from us.
  • Although we do not require a fenced in yard, if you do have one, it has to be at least 5 to 6 feet tall (depending on which dog you are interested in.)
  • We do not adopt our dogs out for the purposed of making them into “service dogs.” With too many people/trainers fraudulently obtaining fake service dog vests and unscrupulous trainers claiming that they are “credentialed”, We do not want to have our dog put into a situation that they are not qualified for.
  • We do not adopt out of the country.
  • We do not fly our dogs. Each dog is driven by our staff, to your home. .
